Plastic Packaging Innovation Services
Ball has the technology and processes in place to help our customers develop, test, and refine their new packaging innovations in a thorough and efficient manner.
Concept Development
Ball has proven confidential concept development capabilities including sketches, artist’s renditions, 3-D CAD black line drawings, and computer-based renderings. We also offer structural analysis and predictive aesthetics showing highlights and shapes of bottles before and after filling. On demand videoconferencing is available for priority projects. Customers have confidential online access to container 3-D models, CAD drawings and specifications.
Rapid Prototyping
Rapid prototyping provides functional containers for cosmetic evaluation and market studies. This enables our customers to evaluate multiple designs, minimize unit tool development, and troubleshoot production design issues. Upon receipt of an approved electronic file, we can provide the customer with functional containers for testing and focus group evaluation. This program is supported by an extensive production and unit tool preform library.
Commercialization
Ball can produce up to 500,000 palletized samples for testing on customer lines, market research, and much more. Support services to ensure optimum performance include: container performance, material characterization, environmental evaluations, and container dimensional analysis. Quick change production molds can be ready within four to six weeks, are easily transportable, provide manufacturing flexibility, and reduce capital costs as compared to conventional molds.
Barrier Technology
For package applications requiring enhanced properties beyond what standard plastic can deliver, Ball offers barrier solutions which utilize a variety of materials and technologies, such as:
- Plasmax SiOx internal barrier coating
- Amazon HM® Multi-layer barrier technology
- Gamma® multi-layer barrier technology
- Gamma® Retort multi-layer barrier technology
Project Management
Ball developed a unique project management system that tracks a package through its lifecycle. PRISM follows a package through: sales determination, container development, lab testing, tool purchasing, mold tracking (history of use), product specification. and production planning Ultimately, PRISM refines priorities, shortens lead times, and allows for operations assessment, capacity planning, and market roll-out.
